What Motivates You to Workout?

Whether it’s never miss a Monday or finish strong Friday, what keeps you motivated to workout during the week? Some days are harder than others to keep motivated and dedicated to your fitness goals. Here are a few ideas that may help to keep that fire lit to keep pushing forward.

Accountability buddies are a great way to keep on track. The two of you or more pick a time of day, frequency of days and you all stick to it. Most of us know that if someone is depending on us to do something, then we are going to follow through with it.

Join a class or a bootcamp, if you pay to join a class you are more than likely going to go and even if it isn’t about the money, if you know that the class and instructor are missing you, then you will be more motivated to go.

Personal Trainers are a great option. Not only do they hold you accountable but they are a great avenue in helping you make a workout program that will help you reach your goals. With a trainer you may meet with them multiple times a week or maybe only once every few weeks. There are several options, so don’t let the thought of a trainer intimidate you.

Now maybe you are more like me and prefer to workout by yourself, there are still days that I need help to keep motivated. So what I do is I keep track on a calendar of what workout I do each day. I take at least one and some weeks two rest days, depending on how hard I am working. But visually seeing the filled up days on the calendar fills me with a sense of pride and accomplishment and that helps keep me motivated on days that I don’t feel like working out.

Another thing that helps is to set goals and keep setting new goals. Weight seems to be a common goal for people. Lets just say once you reach your weight goal, then set a new goal for example maybe your running to reach your weight goal, well now make a running distance your goal. Continue to push yourself, get out of your comfort zone. Along those lines I don’t like to put a lot of focus on weight, as we workout we do lose fat but we also gain muscle. Always keep that in mind, if you focus on the number sometimes you will lose focus of the bigger picture of your health.

No matter how you maintain your motivation or accountability, keep it up. We all have setbacks but that is all that they are, they are not reasons to stop. On those days that you don’t feel like working out, those are the days that you need to workout the most. Your body, but especially your mind will thank you.
