Decorating for Fall

By Whitney_Outdoors

I love using natural elements in the home for décor. Last year I had the idea to create a fall arrangement in a vase. It’s easy and inexpensive to make and I think it adds subtle fall décor to your home. I like to make this arrangement in early September while the cattails are still in good condition. If you are using all natural elements like I did the only other items you will need to purchase is a large glass vase from your local craft store and some pruning shears.

I like to stagger the heights of the cattails and grasses to add fullness and dimension. Add water to your vase once you have assembled everything. Cut the cattails before they bloom and I’ve read you can even spray them with a clear shellac to coat them so they won’t bloom in your house. You will want to change the water at least once a week in the vase. The arrangement should last for several weeks and up to a month.
